In the Mood – Glenn Miller
In 1941 Glenn Miller joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He directed a military band and traveled to England to perform for the troops. In December of 1944, his plane went missing; the plane has never been found. His wife received the Bronze Star in recognition of his wartime efforts.

Aaron Copland is best known for Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid, Rodeo and Fanfare for the Common Man.
It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing – Duke Ellington
Edward Kennedy (Duke) Ellington was born April 29, 1899 in Washington D. C. Ellington was nicknamed “Duke” when he was about 14 years old because his friends admired his polished manner, his fine clothes and his aristocratic up-bringing. In 1969, President Nixon awarded Duke the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the highest civilian award in the nation.
Sing, Sing, Sing – Louis Prima, Bill Holcomb, Arr.
The 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert with Benny Goodman has been described as “the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history: jazz’s ‘coming out’ party to the world of ‘respectable’ music.” The danceable swing band style of Benny Goodman was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935-1945.
